Carbyne : The Strongest Element On Earth!

You all must be quite familiar with the nano-technology that is nowadays emerging as the ‘future technology’ of the world. The continuous improvements in this field have finally led us to Carbyne which is estimated to be the strongest element found over our earth.

Each material has its own unique properties and with the quest for such uniqueness, scientists and engineers have struggled to find their way to Carbyne. If we see at the molecular level, then carbyne is simply a chain of carbon atoms held together by either double or alternating single and triple covalent bonds between them. Such a straightforward structure makes carbine 200 times stronger than steel.

You must have heard of ‘Graphene’. So far, it has been the champion among nano-materials. But with the innovation of carbyne, graphene loses that remark. It has been found that carbyne has twice the tensile strength when compared to that of graphene.

“You could look at it as an ultimately thin Graphene ribbon, reduced to just one atom, or an ultimately thin nanotube. It could be useful for nanomechanical systems, in spintronic devices, as sensors, as strong and light materials for mechanical applications or for energy storage,” says Mr. Boris Yakobson, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Rice.

Mass production of the material is still under process. Scientists are consistently looking forward to a technique that would allow mass production of carbyne. Earlier attempts have successfully synthesized the material at room temperature but that have been constricted to a limited production.

So, if the breakthrough occurs, it’s going to have a significant impact on the way various industries around the world function these days. It paves the way for new innovations to take place.

Autotram Extra Grand – World’s Longest Bus!

I’m sure the above image must have amazed you. Undoubtedly, the Autotram Extra Grand is another spectacular display of brilliance! German Engineers have built this bus in an effort to reduce the number of private vehicles on roads which would help curb traffic jams to a great extent.

The most common problem with the modern world is the growing population. So, the basic motive is to find the most efficient means of mass transportation that would replace hundreds of thousands of extra vehicles off the roads. As a consequence of which, we’ve the longest bus of the world now that extends up to 101 feets!

The Autotram Extra Grand runs on a fuel-efficient hybrid engine. When the engine battery is fully charged, it can take the bus up to 8kms. You must be wondering what sort of skill may be required to drive this engine, then I may tell you that there’s no per-requisite of having a driving license, pass a particular test or anything like that. The bus has an inbuilt steering mechanism which allows it to manoeuvre just like any normal 12meter long bus. It can also steer back and forth with great ease.

The steering mechanism runs on a complex algorithm devised by a team German engineers. The complete projects cost some 10 million dollars.

Now, the point that rises up is that how the Autotram would affect the city traffic. Well, the engineers are optimistic about it. They strongly believe that the grand bus would considerably reduce the number of private vehicles on the road. The engine is eco-friendly and controls the release of harmful gasses in the environment.

The Grand Bus has been debuted in Dresden, Germany. The bus moved around the city and transferred some 258 passengers successfully. So far, the feedback received from them have been gun. The bendy bus combines the ability of a train’s length and a bus’ maneuverability. It’s an awesome example of transportation plus system engineering!

Beijing and Shanghai city administrations have already ordered the bus. German teams are repeatedly conducting pilot tests to ensure full satisfaction. Final touch-ups are underway! Soon, we would be seeing these gigantic vehicles running smoothly on our city roads!

[How To] revoke permission from Google to use your name and face in advertisements

If you are a regular user of DigitFreak, you must have heard about the Google’s recent ‘Privacy Policy’ update? If you didn’t — there is something you should know about.

Starting from 11th November, Google will be able to legally use your face (profile picture) and name (account name) for commercial purposes — why? because, you have agreed to the Terms and policies when you happily check the boxes and click on ‘continue’ while signing up your brand new account!

[How To] auto-mount partition at boot in Ubuntu | Pysdm alternative

Ubuntu (A Linux Distribution) handles partitions differently than Windows Operating system. It is more tightly integrated and securely packed environment and handles the user interaction in more precise manner by executing only necessary commands and performing useful tasks without clogging up the system.

One of these steps taken by Ubuntu or any other Linux operating system is — mounting only root drive (the one where Ubuntu has been installed) at the boot. If you want to access any other partition, you’ll need to mount that partition manually from the file browser. It is very useful when you don’t want any intruder to access all your data, but sometimes it proves to be very frustrating.

Previously, We could use the GUI like “mount manager” or “pysdm” to automatically mount the partitions at boot on Ubuntu 12.10 and below, but due to lack of support and maintenance Ubuntu community removed the package from the repository altogether and this is the good thing. pysdm and other mounting GUI applications are known to cause issues to the system and many users reported the same.

You don’t need to be worried, we are always here to help you out. The method is as easy as you used to accomplish the same task by GUI application, but it is easier than other manual methods to mount the partition.

Instructions:

1. First you need to find out the uuid (universally unique identifier) of the partitions you want to automount. To do so, you can use the following command in terminal:

ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid

You’ll get the output like this:

2. To Find out the partition you want to automount – simply open “Disks” utility and select the partition you want to mount. (See screenshot):

3. Now open startup applications from the “unity dash” and add the following command to your startup application window. Replace “500D4BE5454B55ED” with your own UUID from the terminal as mentioned above.

/usr/bin/udisks –mount /dev/disk/by-uuid/500D4BE5454B55ED

4. Click on close. and restart your system. Next time when you boot Ubuntu, you’ll find the partition mounted automatically.
