After checking out with preferred payment option (there are various payment option that includes PayPal, credit/Debit card, and bitcoin), I received several emails from VPN4ALL that included account details, License key for windows software and mobile app key.

Downloads

I found account details in my email, which helped me log into client area. You’ll find details about your subscribed package and license key in your account. The email sent by them has full detailed information about the service and how to use it.

You can download the setup files and android application on their download page. I found it little difficult and annoying to download the setup file. There were two weird restriction — the download was not resumable and it had speed throttling issue. I never reached the maximum download speed that my ISP provides. Additionally, while downloading the file, it timed out once – forcing me to download the setup again from the beginning.

First, I thought it might be the issue with the ISP and Geo-location of the originating server from where I am downloading the files, but other digitfreak writers and staffs confirmed that they experienced the similar issue — not being able to get the good speed and download being timed out.

However, you can breath a sigh of relief because the windows setup is only ~48 MB.

Using the VPN

Setup:

The setup process is anything like installing other software — you just need to agree to the terms, click “next” several times and “Finish” at the end. There nothing you will have to take care of while installing the software. When installation completed, the setup offered us to choose from two configuration — “Basic” or “Andvanced”. I just choose basic one, and clicked on “Finish.”

Windows:

When you run VPN4ALL for the first time it will ask for the activation key. You bought the software, so they have already sent you the activation key. Just visit your account and copy paste your activation key to use the service.

Once activated you’ll find a really simple and effective layout that allows you to transform your internet connection into a secure network. You’ll find a drop down menu that has dozens of ip addresses to choose from — selecting one of them and clicking on “connect” button quickly connects the computer to the server for data encryption and tunneling. I was pretty impressed with the simplicity of it. It changes your “visible to the world” IP address and protects you against online snoopers and intruders. — All in one click!

VPN4ALL uses enhanced OpenVPN to ensure that (1) all your Internet traffic is encrypted with military-grade encryption as it’s transmitted over the Internet and that (2) your digital ID (IP address) remain invisible to the worldwide web at all times.

Every time a user connects with VPN4ALL, 2096 bits of random numbers are converted into a unique pair of keys for each user and for each session — one private key and one public key. Enter your registered email ID and license number provided by the VPN service and login. You’ll find a simple user interface that allows you to connect to the VPN without much hassle. If you are advanced user, there are some optional setting to play with — selection locations (globe icon) and settings (tweak icon).I left all the settings to default and simply slide the toggle button to activate the VPN on my android device. It quickly connected to the server and I could confirm in the notification area that I am connected to AES 128 bit secure connection that is now encrypting my data over my internet. At first, the surfing speed was real slow – so, I had to manually switch to the Geo-location that is nearest to my current location and I was good to go.

I visited several websites and services to make sure that VPN is actually working. To my surprise everything went so smooth that I didn’t felt any difference. In 5 minutes I was able to encrypt my internet connection on my mobile phone and successfully secured my privacy.

[How To] Schedule downloads using Internet Download manager

If you rely on traditional download managers to achieve the scheduling tasks, you might be out of luck. There are many download managers available on the internet, but “Internet Download Manager” is something that we freaks use for download purpose at regular basis. It is not only capable of scheduling the downloads, but you can also maintain the order in which you want the downloads to be initiated.

So, How you are going to schedule your files on IDM? Don’t worry we are here to help.

Instructions:

1. Adding Files to the Queue

When you click on any link to download files, IDM automatically detects the file type and offers the confirmation window to select from various options. You can change category, provide download destination to save your file along with three actions — “Download Later”, “start Download” and “Cancel” along with details about the file size which appears on the right side of the confirmation window.

If you want to schedule your file to be downloaded later, Just click on “Download Later” button. Upon clicking, it will offer you to choose from the pre-defined scheduling queue.

By default “Main download queue” will be selected, and you can start processing the queue right away if you check the “start queue processing” right before clicking on “OK” button. You can also check “Don’t ask me again” to remember your preferred setting.

We just want to add our file to the list of queue. So, just click on “OK”.

2. Tweaking Settings

Go to internet download manager and double click on “Main Download Queue” at the bottom left corner of the window. You’ll be greeted with the default scheduling settings.

There are two types of scheduling options – “One time download” and “periodic Synchronization.” — As the name suggests “One Time Download,” processes download queue and deletes files from download queue when their download is complete and “periodic synchronization,” IDM checks if the files in the queue have been changed on the server, and if changed, it will download new files and replace old on new ones. All files will stay in the queue after synchronization.

Then comes the real powerful tools and options. The IDM offers a wide flexibility, that can dynamically schedule your file for any practical requirements. You can specify the start and stop time/date/periodicity, Number of retries for each file if downloading failed, open any specific file when download is completed, disconnect internet, exit download manager and turn off your computer automatically.

The powerful tools offered by IDM are very useful for maintaining the download queue and your scheduling needs.

3. Scheduling and downloading Files

Adding Files to the download queue is very easy. You can go with the option mentioned in step 1 above or you can manually add the files to the download queue. Right click on the file > Hover to “Move to queue > select the queue you want to move the files to.

To manage the queue and files, click on “Files in the queue” tab. You can change the order of downloads for one or several selected files by using arrow buttons or by using drag & drop. You can also delete download tasks from the queue with Delete button.

After starting a queue processing IDM starts downloading one file or several files at the same time from the queue. You can set the number of downloaded files at the same time for each queue individually in the corresponding list box.

There are sites that don’t allow opening more than one connection from one computer. If you want to download several files from such site, you should create a separate queue for this site and set “Download” 1 “file at the same time” on this tab. Also you should add such sites to the list of exceptions in IDM “Options->Connection” tab with 1 connection to always download one file using only one connection.

4. Your download will start at the time you scheduled the downloads in settings. If you want to start your schedule right away, just click on “start now” button.

[Review] HP Pavilion 15-e034TX Notebook – 3rd Gen Core i5, 4GB Ram, 1GB graphics card, Free DOS and more

HP pavilion series has been the flagship gadget that represents Hewlett Packard since a very long time. HP is the leading laptop and hardware manufacturing company that has spread its wings in laptops, printers and computer hardware and accessories industry. We received a brand new HP pavilion 15-e034TX (E4X57PA) at our office and we got plenty of time to play with this sleek beauty.

We are pleased to get our hands on this awesome gadget. Going through the general routine to test a laptop, we found it very impressive and value for money.

The specs and overall performance is something that you can only find in the premium laptops. It sports considerable build quality and design. Let’s find out what we found out about this laptop while going through the various aspects.

Build Quality

Being a mid-range laptop, it is firmly built. The material used in the body doesn’t appear to be cheap considering the price range. It surely beats the other laptops in the same category. The laptop hinge, back cover and side panels are strong enough to bear the day-to-day usage.

When I unpacked the laptop from the box, I was amazed to see a silver back cover – traditionally we usually find the laptops with black back covers, unless it is from Apple. The back cover is polycarbonate with darker tiny polka dots all over the silver back and around “HP” logo at the center. Side panel carries the same silver color all over the laptop. Rest of the laptop’s body is painted black, which seems very nice while working on it.

The palm rest area and polycarbonate casing along the display bears the black color with similar polka tiny dots that we saw on the back panel. I really like how HP pavilion is built and packed with the premium casing.

The laptop is slightly thicker at the rear side and slimmer at the front. It has round corners and curved bottom, which adds to the sleekness of the body when viewed from the side. The curves and round corners make it appear slim and trendy.

Display and Graphics

The laptop screen appeared to be bright enough while writing this article. The HP Pavilion 15-e034Tx sports 15.6-inch HD BrightView LED Backlit Display with 1366×768 pixel resolution. We can’t expect Full HD display with this mid-range laptop, but the BrightView technology used on the laptop does the job and keeps everything on the screen bright enough.

You’ll need to tweak the display settings of integrated “Intel 4000 HD graphics card” a little, to obtain the best output. The screen appears to be little dull at default settings. I had to increase the contrast and minimize the brightness in graphics setting to achieve the best result.

The display is bright enough to be used under the sunlight and looks good at 10-30% brightness indoors. We didn’t experience and issues with the screen brightness while working on it. Playing games on the big screen is fun and it performed well.

HP took care of the gaming needs of the user with 1GB DDR3, AMD Mobility Radeon HD 8670M graphics card. The hardware acceleration and dedicated graphics card allows users to run almost any modern games on the laptop without experiencing any glitches.

I played MW3, Crysis 3, Need for Speed Most wanted and Skyrim at their optimal settings. You need to manually tweak your onboard graphics card and dedicated graphics card because they are initially optimized for a balance between the battery life and performance.

Hardware and ports

HP pavilion 15-e034TX (Model No. – E4X57PA) is packed with powerful 3rd Gen Intel core i5 processor (3230M) with Mobile HM76 Express, which is clocked at 2.6GHz with Turbo Boost Technology Upto 3.2 GHz. This ensures the optimal user experience and multitasking.

It has 500 GB SATA Hard disk Drive with max 5400 RPM (could be 7200 RPM). The overall read/write speed is feasible. We noticed low transfer speed when we copied/moved the file from one partition to other. Transferring files from another media is fast and up to expectations.

The laptop sports 4GB DDR3 RAM out of the box, which helps you play high-quality modern games on your laptop without any issue. While playing games, I didn’t notice any lag or glitches at moderate settings.

It has HP TrueVision HD webcam for video conferencing or video call with built in mic. The test shots from the webcam were considerably good enough and video output was bright and clear during our test call.

The Multitouch gesture touchpad is a real wonder, You can pinch to zoom, scroll pages at the edge, slide page with three fingers and zoom-in to zoom-out using two fingers.

The Gadget also features SuperMulti DVD RW Drive with Dual layer support with 8x Read/Write speed. The DTS Sound+ produces High-Quality audio and appears to be loud enough for entertainment purpose. The dual speakers boost the sound output and provides considerable volume for usual requirements.

It has basic/standard communication ports – Ethernet 10/100/1000 Mbps, Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth v4.0.

It has 1xUSB 2.0 and 2xUSB 3.0, RJ45 LAN, 1xHDMI port, 1xVGA port, Multi-Card slot and 1x Headphone out/Microphone-in Combo Jack.

HP pavilion 15-e034TX features standard Island Keyboard, which has well-spaced keys. The keyboard is perfectly designed for typing. I am using the same laptop for composing this article so that I get to know about the keyboard layout and how it fits well when it comes to typing a long content — so far it proved to be a good aspect.

If you have been using the smaller laptops before, you might have to get used to the key spacing and a different key placement. The Caps Lock, Wifi on/off and Audio Mute button has an LED indicator that turns itself on/off depending on the current state. It is a very useful feature because you don’t always want to check whether your Wifi/audio/caps lock is on/off.

Software and Features

The laptop doesn’t comes bundled with any software with it. The HP pavilion 15-e034TX is shipped with Free DOS operating system, which is pretty much unuseful for general users. You’ll have to spend some extra cash to buy Windows7/Windows 8 or you can go with any of the Linux Distro ( we would recommend Ubuntu), which is free and performs all the basic tasks that you might wanna perform on your laptop.

I don’t have to mention that you can download the premium OS from the internet? mmm! I shouldn’t have written this. Well, I think you are not dumb enough to know.

Just because the laptop isn’t shipped with any OS, it cuts down the overall price by 15% when compared to the similar model with 500GB extra HDD and Windows 8 (HP pavilion 15-E015TX).

Because the original version is shipped with Windows 8, you won’t find the Windows 7 drivers on the official website of HP support. However, you can ask for the same from your sales person and he will be happy to hand you over all the software and drivers for the preferred OS.

Considering you know how to manage the OS and drivers on any system, the laptop won’t bother you much. I am using Windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.04 dual boot and haven’t noticed any issues.

The battery backup of the device is little disappointing when used at the highest performance settings (Full brightness, power saving mode off and playing games/ watching video). It lasted only ~2hours 15 min while surfing the internet and playing songs simultaneously.

Rating: 7.5/10

Verdict:

HP Pavilion 15-e034TX is packed with some powerful features and hardware specs, which can only be found in mid-to-high range laptops. The notebook is optimal for general purpose usage, but it won’t disappoint the casual gamers.

The display is little dull at default settings, but it can be fixed with a little tweak. It proved to be good at delivering performance and peace of mind when we talk about multitasking. Battery backup is little disappointing, but again you can’t expect groundbreaking performance with Intel M series processors.

The Notebook is well built and material used doesn’t make it look a cheap product. If you are looking for a budget laptop, just go for it.

Apple officially announced Budget iPhone 5C with 4-inch retina display [Specs, comparison]

Apple officially announced the much-anticipated gadget for the budget friendly seekers. The lower cost device designed to appeal to buyers who wants to experience the apple environment without spending much for the premium materials.

The hardware specs are identical to that of iPhone 5, so it is the great for those who were looking forward to this device. However, we felt that the iPhone 5C might not be that cheap as expected, whether you buy it on contract or without it.

The 5c was announced today at Apple’s launch event in Cupertino, California. The device will come with a polycarbonate shell and the option of a green, white, blue, pink, or yellow “soft-feel” silicon rubber surround.

The iPhone 5C will be shipped with 4-inch retina display along with A6 processor, same as iPhone 5.

Pre-orders start from September 13 and the handsets are due to go on sale from September 20 in the US, UK, Australia, China, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Singapore. Nissan Nismo – Smartwatch that tracks your car

It’s time for wearable tech junkie to leave their wardrobe and wear something new that unites them with their car. Nissan launches a Nismo smartwatch that measures the performance of the vehicle and the driver both.

With this mini-nurse keeping track on user’s heart rate, temperature and other biometrics, it also allows the user to keep his eye on the vehicle’s performance including average speed and fuel consumption. The Nismo watch can be connected to the car’s on-board computer system to allow users to monitor vehicle telematics and performance data. Users can also receive tailored messages from Nissan via the gadget.

You like being kind of social!?, don’t worry, the Nismo watch displays messages from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest in an app appropriately called Social Speed. So, you can be in touch with your fellas while you are speeding up.

Connectivity is the new battleground for car manufacturers and it seems like Nissan is making their make move very cleverly. Gluts of smartwatches has hit the market recently including Samsung’s Galxay Gear and Sony’s smartwatch 2. So, whats’s the deal with Nissan’s Nismo? It is the first foray of Nissan in wearable tech and Nissan claims this smart watch to be the first that focuses on connecting the car and the driver.

The Nismo comes in three colors and has a battery life of around a week and can be controlled by two buttons on the screen.

The lab plans to use electrocardiograms (ECG) and electroencephalograms (EEG) in the future to capture a range of heart and brainwave data.

The eventual aim would be to create wearable technology for drivers that can spot fatigue, monitor drivers’ levels of concentration and emotions and record hydration levels.

libre office was started in september 2010 and since then it has got many supporters wordwide, along with the famous linux SUSE. But even though in these tough times people are moving over from one company to the other they are still covering up fpr the great piece of spoftware called libre office.

The people over at the collabora productivity are quite happy with the overall performance of the
office suite and the increasing popularity has made the situations even better for them. So the
company is providing it a financial support so that there could be more developements in this
ongoing project.

Collabora’s representative said the following words –

“That will include an enterprise-enabled, long-term supported Collabora LibreOffice release, along
with bug fixing and security updates, For those clients requiring customization and fine-tuning,
Collabora will offer consultancy services.”

Now ain’t that something really good going on for the open source company, open source really does
makes wonders possible. Some might add the current boost claimed by the upcoming Ubuntu Edge might be the reason why the software is gaining much more popularity than Microsoft’s office itself. Till
now one needs to buy license to run MS Office on their computer whereas Libre office or Open office
are free of cost, with small bundle size and the special ability to save files as a pdf, for which
you surely need to pay in all other cases.

Collabora also added that they are quite interested in meeting up with those who have already
invested in the company and together they will be powerful enough to support all the company’s
needs. Other companies who might be seen investing in Libre office could be AMD (Advanced Micro
Devices) and even though everyone has something to gain from this, some might be seen getting more profit than others. Well thats what open source is, if you don’t get something its nice, and if you
start getting something back, then its all well and good.
