  • [How To] Schedule downloads using Internet Download manager

[How To] Schedule downloads using Internet Download manager

If you rely on traditional download managers to achieve the scheduling tasks, you might be out of luck. There are many download managers available on the internet, but “Internet Download Manager” is something that we freaks use for download purpose at regular basis. It is not only capable of scheduling the downloads, but you can also maintain the order in which you want the downloads to be initiated.

So, How you are going to schedule your files on IDM? Don’t worry we are here to help.

[Download Latest version of Internet Download Manager]

    Instructions:

7013000641. Adding Files to the Queue

When you click on any link to download files, IDM automatically detects the file type and offers the confirmation window to select from various options. You can change category, provide download destination to save your file along with three actions — “Download Later”, “start Download” and “Cancel” along with details about the file size which appears on the right side of the confirmation window.

If you want to schedule your file to be downloaded later, Just click on “Download Later” button. Upon clicking, it will offer you to choose from the pre-defined scheduling queue.

701300063By default “Main download queue” will be selected, and you can start processing the queue right away if you check the “start queue processing” right before clicking on “OK” button. You can also check “Don’t ask me again” to remember your preferred setting.

We just want to add our file to the list of queue. So, just click on “OK”.

    2. Tweaking Settings

Go to internet download manager and double click on “Main Download Queue” at the bottom left corner of the window. You’ll be greeted with the default scheduling settings.

701300069 copyThere are two types of scheduling options – “One time download” and “periodic Synchronization.” — As the name suggests “One Time Download,” processes download queue and deletes files from download queue when their download is complete and “periodic synchronization,” IDM checks if the files in the queue have been changed on the server, and if changed, it will download new files and replace old on new ones. All files will stay in the queue after synchronization.

Then comes the real powerful tools and options. The IDM offers a wide flexibility, that can dynamically schedule your file for any practical requirements. You can specify the start and stop time/date/periodicity, Number of retries for each file if downloading failed, open any specific file when download is completed, disconnect internet, exit download manager and turn off your computer automatically.

The powerful tools offered by IDM are very useful for maintaining the download queue and your scheduling needs.

    3. Scheduling and downloading Files

Adding Files to the download queue is very easy. You can go with the option mentioned in step 1 above or you can manually add the files to the download queue. Right click on the file > Hover to “Move to queue > select the queue you want to move the files to.

701300070To manage the queue and files, click on “Files in the queue” tab. You can change the order of downloads for one or several selected files by using arrow buttons or by using drag & drop. You can also delete download tasks from the queue with Delete button.

    701300066701300068

After starting a queue processing IDM starts downloading one file or several files at the same time from the queue. You can set the number of downloaded files at the same time for each queue individually in the corresponding list box.

There are sites that don’t allow opening more than one connection from one computer. If you want to download several files from such site, you should create a separate queue for this site and set “Download” 1 “file at the same time” on this tab. Also you should add such sites to the list of exceptions in IDM “Options->Connection” tab with 1 connection to always download one file using only one connection.

    4. Your download will start at the time you scheduled the downloads in settings. If you want to start your schedule right away, just click on “start now” button.
  • Is Linking to a Torrent or copyrighted material in anyway, illegal?

Is Linking to a Torrent or copyrighted material in anyway, illegal?

Is A link Of a link Of A Torrent Of A Torrent Of Copyrighted Material Copyrighted? To be honest, every person involved in p2p transmission and internet downloads ask this question to themselves a thousand of times. Even they sometimes discuss about it with others.

Many of us know what the answer is, and successfully ignores the importance of it, even if you know what it means.

“Yes” anything linked to or anywhere, which points to the copyrighted material in any manner is illegal, said DigitFreak CEO and co-Founder Timamir.

Tim suggested that we should not forget the system we are part of, and the way it evolves around us.

Even further when we talked to other Crew Member Maverick, he said:

“There is nothing to confirm here, If you link to any copyrighted material anywhere (doesn’t matter if it should constitute online or offline environment) in any form, it is considered as illegal, atleast that’s what the law says. One should be aware that you can’t get things right if you are doing it wrong already. but i am not against any system (specially pointing to the p2p and bittorrent stream, laughing)and i don’t quite agree with the current law and the way it governs the online community.”

When further queried we found the similar reactions from all of our crew members and few of them (won’t be named) accepted that they use bittorrent system to transfer files.

Pirate Bay (.se) user allisfine just recently uploaded a torrent to the site that is a collection of all the magnet identifiers for the entire site (actually, only about a quarter of the site, but all the publicly visible ones). That is to say, it is a list of the unique identifiers, cryptographic hashes, of every .torrent file on the site.

In a way, this torrent file, or indeed its magnet identifier (938802790a385c49307f34cca4c30f80b03df59c), contains millions or billions of dollars worth of pirated content. Or does it?

It’s more a philosophical question than a technical one, which is why folks like the MPAA and RIAA will always be able to stay on one side of it. Yes, linking to copyrighted content is a crime. And linking to a link is a crime (as we’ve seen in Twitter DMCA takedowns). That’s a link to a link to a file that lets you download the file. What about a link to a link to a link? You can’t fool me, young man, it’s copyright violations all the way down.

question-copyrightThat’s absurd, of course, yet like many absurd things, it makes a certain amount of sense. It doesn’t matter how many steps you take, if your destination is copyrighted, then you’re in trouble. But there’s just as much absurd ammo on the other side as well.

Consider the magnet identifier for this meta-torrent (or the DeCSS code, or a secure piece of electronics’ “master key,” or the like). Encode it as a series of integers. Is that series of integers a copyright violation?

What about ?(pie), an irrational number calculable by anybody that contains that series of integers if you look long enough? What about an image file that has three pixels of black, then five pixels of white, then two pixels of red, and so on? Is that pattern a violation? What if I think it’s beautiful and I put it on the wall, and have no idea it’s actually a visual representation of a hash of a hash of a torrent containing a compressed file containing the hashes of files that act as pointers to copyrighted information?

Naturally, there must be cap put on such hijinx. It will likely be clear when someone intended information to be a distributive mechanism for copyrighted or sensitive content. The nature of the container is to some extent irrelevant. But some of these issues need to be hashed out, so to speak, so that it’s not just a logical but a legal reality that no one can be charged with a billion in statutory damages for writing a short series of numbers on a napkin. It sounds silly until it’s being decided by the Supreme Court.

The nature and legal status of data in its many strange forms is a process we likely will never be done with. But small quandaries like this are worth savoring, before their solutions are etched in stone and gradually become the status quo. People talk about the web as if its “Wild West” days are behind it. These people lack imagination.

  • Want to download files using IDM in Ubuntu, huh?

Want to download files using IDM in Ubuntu, huh?

A Few nights ago, I was searching for porn on internet (For which I am very popular!) and I found a great kickass video which I needed to download. Fortunately, I got the direct link for that video, but the file size was too big and I knew that if any interruptions happened then I will not be able to resume my download again.

Then my search for a resumable GUI Download manager started. At the beginning when i shifted to Ubuntu, like all the other desperate windows users I also tried to install IDM using wine but failed. Very little did I know that the real solution was hidden within the same software. It was the start of my mission and That night I was searching for this kind of software everywhere. In Ubuntu software center, I even found an app named ‘kget’ with the same facilities like resumable download and all that usual shit but it was too big for my Urgent need. Finally, I started feeling hopeless that I would not be able to download this porn, and would forever miss this one.

I don’t know how but I felt the urge to crawl online for any other methods or ways to download the files just the way IDM does. And There it was waiting for me in google’s Advanced search!

So after all this foreplay what I found is that you can get the same old, same old app named “The great great IDM” working in Linux if and only if you have got wine installed and a setup file of “IDM Version 5.05“.

Don’t worry if you don’t have it then I will get you there. I know that you are getting more desperate as i write each extra word. Without further ado, Click here if you want to download IDM v5.05(of course you do!). Don’t worry i am not kidding and also the file size is only 2 mb!

    Download_link# http://download.oldapps.com/IDM/idman505.exe

After you shitty internet connection is done with this download, then right-click on the setup file and go in the properties menu. There under permissions tab, check the box named ‘allow executing file as a program‘.

    123

And you are good to go.
Double click on the IDM setup and go through the normal installation process and you will find that it’s working just the same way. On top of that I found out that it accelerates your download speed up to twice as it did in my case! Isn’t that savvy?

    abc
    def

If you don’t know where those files are being installed, don’t worry. There are here. Make a copy of the link for that folder if you wish on your desktop. Go to your home directory and there press ‘ctrl+H’. That’s how you show your hidden files in Ubuntu. Look for a directory named ‘.wine’. Inside that directory  you will see two folders. Open the folder named ‘drive_c’. You are now in your fake windows system drive and you see the familiar folders like windows and program files. Inside the program files you can find the installed files of any software that you have installed through wine.

What you can’t do in this Forced installation?
Don’t be afraid!, its not like i am gonna write that you won’t be able to download anything at all, just to see the IDM window. lol!. Now You don’t have the download panel property in this version. So you will need to have a direct download link to download any file. Also Even if you try to Force any download using the ‘force download keys‘ option, its all gonna be a waste.

You will  also need to register this version of IDM if you want to use it longer than one month.

Ok! Fine. I am going to help you here also, but this is the last time. If you have eyes then you must have noticed something glowing in he text below. It’s not my effing phone number! GOD! you guys are like kids. Thats the registration key for IDM. In the ‘help’ menu of you IDM select the ‘Registration’ option. The registration dialog opens and there insert whatever you wish in the names and email ID, along with the key in the respective boxes(what else did you think were we going to do? huh?). And when you are done you will see that its registered!

    Key# HFLUV-FRUKA-2R7U7-GLHQ1

    hurrah!

I believe, that after this tutorial(ass whooping) all you of you people are happy and enjoying all the porn, shit! sorry . I mean you are all downloading all that you wish without any interruptions, and time limits. (just the way i enjoyed my night)!

In the end, let’s take some credits. Let’s see..

    1. You had to download only 2MBs instead of 60MBs! that kget needed you to download.

    2. You enjoy the whole IDM features and registration just for nothing more than your one visit to Digitfreak.

    3. You got introduced to the coolest person alive for free!

    4. And add all the things that you want to thank me for in the list that has no end whatsoever..lol

[Note: Don’t ask me for that porn video link now! Btw it was really nice and HD sized 232MB only!. Ain’t that great!]

  • Ubuntu 11.04 : Using synaptic for Offline package installation

We have already shown you how to install software on Ubuntu without an Internet connection by compiling software on it. However, we believe we have also demonstrated that resolving dependencies and installing them before the software in need is a task challenging enough to make those tremble who use pacemakers to keep their heart running. It was this reason that package management was invented. Package manager like YUM and APT were created to be able to install a pre-compiled software package on computers and keep track of them. Since Installing software by source also takes a lot of time depending on the machine configuration and the amount of code, package management came up as a better solution.

It was because of such inventions that Ubuntu enjoys the ‘search-click-go’ style for software Installation.

synapticHowever, this style involves heavy use of The internet, which for some is still a luxury, leave alone the matter of unlimited downloads and high speeds. If you think that it is going to be very tough, you are mistaken. It is even easier than our previous source code compilation method. This method is going to be a little different but not too tough.

Well, to begin with, ask yourself – how does someone install a software on Windows if he does not have it? In 99 out of 100 cases, the answer would be to download the software from the internet and run the set-up. Offline software installation for Ubuntu is not much different either. Although Ubuntu software center is what a user would prefer and the command line-apt-get is the friend of the one who loves to see everything happening in characters rather in graphs and bars. Synaptic is what you would need help from if you were to look for a method to install software without an Internet connection on the machine.

To be able to do so, follow the following steps:

    1. Launch Synaptic Package Manager. This can be done by typing “synaptic” in unity, and by launching “synaptic Package Manager” from the system Administration menu in Gnome.
    2. Once Synaptic is up and running (it takes some time to rebuild its search index). Search the packages which you want to install and mark them for installation. Synaptic might also ask for installation of other packages as dependencies. Confirm them. Do not press the ‘Apply’ button. In this example, we will try to install ‘audacity’ which does not come with Ubuntu in the default package.
    3. Go to the ‘File’ menu on the synaptic window and click on the ‘Generate Package Download Script’ This will open a new window asking you to save your file. The file is a txt file which can be executed as a shell script on Linux Machines.
Here comes the twist, you can use the shell script on the other Linux Machine with internet and download the .deb files. But, if you cannot find the other Linux system around then what you would do?
Well, we have the way to get around it somehow. Remember we just said that the shell script is just a txt file. so we can see what is there inside the shell script with any text viewer.

    1. In case you want to use the shell script on windows or other OS save the shell script with the .txt extension. The point here is to be able to view contents if you have to. You can use any extension as long as you are able to do ‘open with…’ on the file and open it with a text editor. For the sake of the example, we will use the name ‘audacity.sh’.
    2. If you run this script on Linux machine with an Internet connection, it will download the required set of packages. However, let us assume that we are using a Windows based machine and still want to use the generated file. To understand the procedure, we will tell you a few things about the generated file. To understand the procedure, we will tell you a few things about the generated script file. The first thing to be understood is: the file is basically a shell script file. All it does is to call the ‘Wget’ program to download the required packages. Wget is a command line program which can be used to perform HTTP downloads. The generated script file simply calls the wget program with the address of the packages. If you open the script file with any text editor, you shall see the commands and of course, the URLs of the packages to be downloaded.
    3. Now you know the trick. All you have to do is to go to the nearest friend or internet accessible area with an Internet connection and download the packages whose URLs are mentioned in the script file. For Example, if a line says.

then you should download using the link

    1. Once you have downloaded the packages, all you have to do is save them all in the same directory and put them on the same machine (the one with no Internet connection) and launch Synaptic again.
    2. Now, go to File. Add Downloaded Packages. This will open a new window where you have to select that directory where you have placed all your.DEB files. Remember that you cannot select individual DEB files in the selection window (It’s for selection  of directory, not files). Synaptic will automatically install all of them and there to have it! The software is installed.
    3. Optionally you can also use the command
    • sudo dpkg -i *.deb

in the directory where you saved all the .deb files.
