Here is the roundup of the some of the best upcoming laptops of the year.

The Dell 9343 seems to be the beacon of hope in a world full of substandard windows laptops. It is a rather compact machine, promising to outdo its competition in most of the specs. With a 13.3 inch screen, it comes with an almost borderless display, I processor, 4GB of ram coupled together with 128 GB of STA-SSD hard disk. For those looking for higher ram and storage, two more variants with these upgraded specs are also available. However, it comes with a soldered and non-upgradable Ram.

Rather unheard of yet changing into an extremely sought after manufacturer; the Razer Blade Stealth is one of the perfect machines out there. With an aluminum chassis only 0.5 inches in thickness and 2.75 pounds of weight, it packs in a configuration of i7 CPU together with 4K touch display. It can be thought of as an ultrabook-cum-gaming laptop, for all you will need is the Core graphical amplifier (sold separately) in order to make it the ultimate gaming machine.

The LG Gram was announced at CES 2016, and many found it hard to distinguish this from the new MacBook. With a 15.6-inch display, options of Core i5 or i7 processor and a full HD display, it runs Windows 10 along with 8GB of RAM. Internal storage options include 256 and 512 GB variants. LG is, however, still keeping this seemingly mean machine under wraps and have not revealed as to when will the Gram actually come out.

Tablets and hybrid laptops have been all the rage in these last few years, and Samsung has been trying to take on its competitors since then. With the TabPro S, it sure is looking to make a nice entry into the laptop-cum-tablet segment. It is not only super slim but super light as well- especially when you consider it comes with a 10.5-hour battery life and is powered by a 6th generation Intel Core M dual-core processor. Not bad at all, especially along with a 12 inch Super AMOLED 2160 x 1440 display. It is expected to come with 4GB or Ram and 128/256 GB storage.

The Lenovo Yoga is what the manufacturer chose to begin its 2016 lineup with- a 12.8 mm thin laptop weighing less than a kilo. Yet, they have managed to pack it with 12-inch QHD screen, a 10.5-hour battery life and a 360-degree hinge that allows to completely flip the screen to get a tablet. With Intel Core M processor and a design that looks to be a competitor to Apple, Lenovo is for sure trying to make this one as its first MacBook beater!

  • Gnome Multiwriter – Write iso image file to multiple USB drives simultaneously

Gnome Multiwriter – Write iso image file to multiple USB drives simultaneously

Sometimes your usb won’t boot, sometimes it will but with grub errors, sometimes it freezes before finishing writing the image, sometimes it exits with no error feedback… It’s bit of a mess! — If you want to write same ISO image to multiple USB drives, than it is a real pain.

Yes, it’s true that code savvy folks would simply write a little bash script to automate the process, but large number of users would only be comfortable with a GUI tool. This is where ‘Gnome MultiWriter’ stepped right in.z 00007The developer, Richard Hughes faced a similar issue when he was looking for a way to create a number of USB rives pre-loaded with an OS. An idea popped into his mind to create a tool which is simple enough, so that even his dad could use it.

He developed ‘Gnome MultiWriter’ as a solution, which can write an ISO/IMG image file to 20 USB drives simultaneously, each being between 1GB and 32GB in size.

z 00008This simple and minimalist tool nixes the need to customize or create a command line script and relinquishes the need to waste an afternoon performing an identical set of action. All you need is this app, an ISO, some thumb-rives and lots of empty USB ports.

    z 00005

Seems so exciting? Although the developer wanted this app to be simple enough so that it could fulfill requirements of common Linux users but it is still at beta stage (unstable to use) and thus simple repository installation is missing – there are no pre-built binaries to install or a PPA to add to your software sources.

If you know your way around the usual configure/make process you can get it up and running in no time. On Ubuntu 14.10 you may also need to install the following packages first:

    sudo apt-get install gnome-common yelp-tools libcanberra-gtk3-dev libudisks2-dev gobject-introspection

If you get it up and running, give it a whirl and let us know what you think!

Bugs and pull requests can be longed on the GitHub page for the project, which is where you’ll also found tarball downloads for manual installation.

[How To] convert any image into folder icon [Images]

Yeah, I agree there are some applications that can help you change the folder color and you can easily change the folder icon using the “properties” context menu.

But, have you ever tried to change the folder icon to your favorite image? The thing is that you can’t change the folder icon into the image you want it to be, simply because windows can only recognize the icons with it’s unique file extension — “.ico” – leaving you with the manual image conversion process.

Even if you are stubborn and want to do things manually, it would consume lots of time and needs some considerable amount of efforts to convert 100s of images into .ico file – and sometimes, you don’t get the good results with the image conversion tools, because they cannot retain the same image quality as the source file.

We came across a really simple and beautiful tool that accomplishes the same task, but with minimal efforts and a negligible amount of time. “Folder Changer” is the utility that can change the folder color according to your preference, and it does convert any picture/image into a folder icon.

Let’s have a look at the steps you need to follow to get this work.

    Instructions

    1. Download the software “FolderChanger” and install the software

    2. Select “Photo/Add Your Own” tab of FolderChanger.

    3. Drag and drop your favorite photo into FolderChanger.

select image and drap and drop in the application

    4. Wait a few seconds for PhotoChanger to convert your photo into an icon.

    5. Drag and drop your Desktop folder over the icon inside FolderChanger.Folder changer image
