  • Oxford adds ‘arey’, ‘yaar’ and other hindi words to the dictionary

You’d think that the words that you frequently use to call out your friends and address someone in various instances of expressions ranging from “hey buddy” to “you got to be kidding me” in desi style, are now part of Oxford Lexicon.

Words like ‘arey’, ‘yaar’, ‘churidar’, ‘bhelpuri’ and ‘dhaba’ are added to the dictionary, depiction as words being used in English language as well.

You’d be surprised to know that these words has been used in English since a long time. While the word ‘arey’ was first used in English in 1845, ‘churidar’ was first used in 1880. ‘yaar’, which has been defined as ‘friend, mate’ saw its first English Usage in 1963.

Dr Danica Salazr, consultant editor, Oxford English Dictionary said that:

Our large and wide-ranging language research programme has found sufficient evidence that these words are being used in English for reasonable amount of time and with reasonable freqiency, and are of specific cultural, historical or linguistic significance. Arre, for instance, has a quite a long history in English, with its first quotation dating back as far back as 1845.

The Oxford dictionary defines churidar as “tight trousers made with excess material at the bottom of the legs, which falls in folds around the angles, traditionally worn by people from South Asia.,” dhaba, has been included as nound thich explains India context as “roadside food stall or restaurant,” yaar, has been defined as noun to address “friend, mate.”

Oxford also included some interesting popular words in the dictionary which includes FLOTUS (first lady of united states), lipstick, twitterati (first spotted in 2006, used to address the users of twitter).

Watch this guy beat Super Mario Blindfolded [Video]

YouTuber PangaeaPanga uploaded a video yesterday, featuring his Twitch stream which features him playing Super Mario World — “BlindFolded.” Yes, you read it right – not only he did played the game without even looking at the screen, but he did complete it in the record time.

It is obvious that he relied on the iconic retro music that was playing in the background and matched the timing when he had to press the right button, to perform the activity required. Even if you get to rely on the sound, most of us can’t even go over the first obstacle, without being eaten by the turtle or dog.

He did die several times, but this video still amazes us.

Watch the fraction of the video in animated gif below:

  • 2 really easy way to delete your netflix history or recently watched

2 really easy way to delete your netflix history or recently watched

Netflix is one of the biggest subscription-based video streaming service, which has a plethora of online contents to offer. It has a number of choices when it comes to the movies it offers via a computer or DVD player, but removing the recently watch items from your account history is still a tricky part that most of the users are still finding difficult to tackle.

Fortunately, Netflix did listened to its users and provided an easily accessible option to remove and hide recently watched activities from their account. It is still not possible to achieve this on the mobile app – you’ll need to log onto Netflix using a computer browser in order to edit recently watched media.

There are two methods which can be used to achieve our goal, which is slightly different from each other. One can use either of these options according to their preference.

Method 1: Deleting/hiding Recently watched Itemsnetflix account login delete viewing history step 1

      1. Log onto the Netflix website, not the app. On a computer or tablet, log on to http://www.netflix.com with your internet browser. According to Netflix customer service, the mobile apps cannot access this option, but a mobile internet browser can.
If your mobile device doesn’t have a browser, log on using a computer. Changes you make on one device will spread to all other devices within 24 hours.select your profile netflix clear recent viewing history step 2
      2. Select your profile: If a list of names pops up after log-in, select your profile. Each profile has a separate viewing activity list.

If no list appears, check the top right corner of your screen for a name and square image (usually a face). If this isn’t your profile, click this image and select your profile icon.

    1. Visit your Viewing Activity page. Visit https://www.netflix.com/WiViewingActivity to see a list of your recent shows. You can also get here by clicking the square profile icon in the top right, select Your Account from the drop-down menu, then scrolling down and clicking Viewing Activity in the My Profile section.
If you are using Netflix on any device besides a computer, and your Recently Watched page is empty, try turning off the device and turning it on again.
    2. Individual titles or series can be hidden by clicking on the ‘X’ next to that title or series. After hiding a title from your viewing activity page, the title will no longer show in your Recently Watched or Continue Watching row, and we will no longer use your viewing of this title to make recommendations to you. It may take up to 24 hours to disappear from other devices, but it will usually vanish much sooner.

Method 2: Replacing your existing Netflix profile

    1. While logged into your Netflix account, hover over your profile image in the right corner of the screen and click on “Manage profiles” link.z 00008
    2. Add a new profile by clicking on the “Add Profile” link and entering a name for your profile.netflix profiles delete netflix profile to clear history
    3. Delete your old profile: On the profile management page, click “edit” next to the old profile name, then delete the profile. Click on delete profile again on the pop-up box.click delete profiles in pop up to confirm
    4. Your entire viewing history will be deleted that was associated with that profile.
  • How to share data between two laptops using LAN cable

In this tutorial we are going to transfer our data between two computers/laptops using LAN cables. First of all connect both computers with your LAN cable.

Now on first computer/laptop follow these instructions:

    • Go to “Open Networking and Sharing Center“.
    • Click on “Local Area Connection“.
    • Now click on “Properties“.
    • Double click on “Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv6)“.
    • Click on “Use the following IP address:” and enter the IP address: as 192.168.1.1 and just give a click on Subnet mask. Once done click “Ok” and close it.

Now it’s time for second computer/laptop and follow same instruction given above except for the IP address part:

    • Go to “Open Networking and Sharing Center“
    • Click on “Local Area Connection“.
    • Now click on “Properties“
    • Double click on “Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv6)“.
    • Click on “Use the following IP address:” and enter the IP address: as 192.168.1.2  (remember IP address should not be same on both computers/laptop) and just give a click on Subnet mask. Once done click “Ok” and close it.

Now follow these instructions to give access to drives where our data is located.

    • Click on “Computer“.
    • Right click on driver and then Properties
    • Click on “Sharing” tab and then Advance Sharing and then check out Share the folder
    • Click on Permissions to give control on the other PC and once done click “Ok” and close it
    • Click Security and then go onto Advance Settings>Change Permissions>Add>Advance>Find Now at bottom click Everyone

Now go to the computer where you want to copy data to and press window + r which opens Run and enter the IP address of next computer and press enter. Now you are in the drive which is shared with you. You can now copy data from that computer.

Note: You don’t need a crossover cable to connect two PC’s to each other nowadays, since most modern computers contain NIC’s that have auto-MDIX.

You can always use Bluetooth to transfer files between two computers but not all of them have Bluetooth and it’s comparatively slower than LAN.  If you are already connected to same network, there are many LAN sharing software which lets you share data without the hassles of setting up IP address. All you need is same LAN sharing application open at both laptop. Some of the LAN sharing software are Dukto, D-LAN, Lanshark, etc.

  • How to Monitor Internet Speed in Ubuntu

How to Monitor Internet Speed in Ubuntu

I often use it to monitor the speed while downloading or using internet and stumbled upon a website which takes time to respond — looking at the internet speed indicator tells me whether my internet is working properly or website is not using the bandwidth to load the page, in that case I simply reload the page to make it render properly.

I will be first to admit it that it is quiet easy to do it on windows Operating system, however you’ll be surprised to know that this can be done as easily on Ubuntu as well. In some cases you’ll feel that it’s better and quicker way to implement on Linux distros than on Windows – which involves downloading a software and installing them on your computer.

App and repository based Ubuntu distro makes it fun and easier to use. There sure is a learning curve for new users but, it is worth the effort.

I used Ubuntu 15.04 for this tutorial, but it can be implemented on any version of Ubuntu.

    How to Install

Webupd8 designed a package which includes various useful applications in a single package such as radio, hotspot, themes and most importantly our Net speed indicator. We will be using this repository to install our net speed indicator to monitor internet speed.

    Step 1.

Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and paste the following sudo command.
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8

    Step 2

    Update your repository.
    Sudo apt-get update

    Step 3

Install netspeed indicator using this command.
    sudo apt-get install indicator-netspeed
Tips: You can also check the internet usage by all ports using a simple command “ifconfig”.

    terminal ifconfig
